Good schools are priority for today's buyers

Moving into or living in the catchment area of a good school is becoming more and more important for homebuyers, according to a national report.

So important in fact that a small percentage of parents (ten per cent) are willing to pay more than £50,000 for the privilege and others an average of £19,000 – so says the latest research from a price comparison website.

Some parents will go to extreme lengths to secure a place at what they believe is a top performing school – with 29 per cent admitting that they have moved house specifically to be in the catchment area.

Chris Roads, pictured, Midlands sales director for house builder Linden Homes, said: "We recognise the huge importance parents place on education and choosing the right school for their child, and this accounts for a high volume of our inquiries – evidence that the positioning of our developments are carefully thought out with our customers and their families' needs in mind."
